GILL DONS HER GOGGLES FOR DIABETES UK

Gill Smith, Residential Lettings Manager at Smith and Sons, will be swimming the length of the English Channel as part of Diabetes UK’s Swim22 challenge.

During the course of a 10 week period Gill will swim some 22 miles – the length of the Channel – in her local swimming pool, raising much needed funds for the national charity.

So far Gill has raised an impressive £540 with new supporters pledging donations each day.

Gill commented: “Diabetes is a disease very close to my heart and I wanted to both raise awareness of the issues around it as well as generate funding and support. The Swim22 challenge has provided the perfect vehicle from which I can do this and I’m pleased to see that I’m fully on track with my schedule!”

Gill has been following the Diabetes UK online tracker where she can log on and track lengths and fundraising, throughout the swimming challenge. Gill added: “This is certainly challenging but it is fantastic for my fitness and the fundraising element is undoubtedly motivating me .”

Every day, around 700 people are diagnosed with diabetes. When diabetes is not well managed it is associated with serious complications including heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease and amputations.
