Queen Victoria married Prince Albert in the same year that the Penny Black stamp was issued, the Cunard Shipping Company was established, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra was formed, the Birkenhead to Chester Railway was opened and Thomas Hardy was born. Meanwhile, Thomas Smith, the founder of Smith and Sons set up business as a Land and Estate Agent at 13 Duncan Street, Birkenhead. He later took his three sons into partnership one of whom, Frederick Smith was the father of F E Smith (First Earl of Birkenhead and Lord Chancellor 1919-1922).

The present Partners are proud of the history and tradition of the firm and continue to build on the firms' hard earned reputation for tradition and innovation. Based in Grade 1 Listed Buildings in Hamilton Square, the main office quarter of Birkenhead, the Partners and Staff serve clients throughout the North West of England and are always pleased to welcome new and existing clients to their offices.
