FLOODING - A GROWING THREAT AND THE INDUSTRY RESPONSE
Recently we have seen the Wirral, and the surrounding, area hit by severe flooding, with roads and properties heavily affected by the sudden downpours, causing widespread disruption to local communities.
Across the UK, the threat posed from flooding to property and infrastructure is becoming increasingly pressing as weather patterns grow more extreme. As a result, the need for professional advice and support continues to rise, particularly to help mitigate risk and implement preventative measures that can minimise damage and long term impact.
Smith and Sons is proud to be RICS Regulated. The RICS have recently introduced a document that supports professionals in managing flooding, helping to raise awareness and highlighting the following areas specifically:
- Aspects of flooding that may be important to different areas of professional practice, and the constant need to take a broad and strategic view of the risks that arise from flooding
- The different approaches that may be helpful in reducing or mitigating these risks
Andrew Smith, Chartered Surveyor and Managing Partner at Smith and Sons commented: “The threat of flooding continues to increase as we face more extreme weather conditions year on year in the UK. By working closely with fellow industry professionals, we remain committed to delivering clear, practical and expert advice to support clients facing flood related challenges with their properties.
“We will continue to be guided by our RICS professional standards to ensure best practice in managing this growing issue.”
