BIRKENHEAD BUSINESSES SAY YES

Birkenhead businesses have voted overwhelmingly in favour of introducing a Business Improvement District (BID) to central Birkenhead.

Following a 28 day postal ballot, over 85% of participating businesses voted YES for change.

Birkenhead BID will commence on 1st April 2016 and in the meantime the panel, including Smith and Sons Managing Partner, Chris Johnson, will be planning the delivery of the BID business plan.

Chris Johnson said: “There was a fantastic response to the BID and a real majority in favour which demonstrates how local businesses are keen to change and improve our local area. Whilst the next few months will be spent planning, we’ll start to see changes from April onwards focusing on our key areas.”

Birkenhead BID will deliver a range of initiatives and projects based on four main themes - safety and security, cleanliness and appearance, marketing and promotion and supporting businesses.

Cllr Phil Davies, Leader of Wirral Council was delighted at the positive outcome of the ballot, he commented: "The business community in Birkenhead has spoken and they overwhelmingly supported the BID. As a council dedicated to bringing business back to our town centres and high streets, we congratulate Birkenhead business owners on becoming the first on Wirral to step up and play an active role in rejuvenating the town.”
